Trisha: I have a narrow focus on my blog, and I don’t like to venture too far outside that focus in my writing, although I have tons of opinions and thoughts about it that I’m happy to share. Trisha (cont): My main activist goal is to destroy the penetrative imperative in our sexual culture (which doesn’t mean I want to eliminate penetration from sexual activity just decenter it as a means to female orgasm in a basedinscientificinvestigation sort of way). Trisha (cont): The deepseeded unwillingness as a culture to really, fully acknowledge that penetrative PinV sex is in no way as orgasmic for females as it is for males, and according to actual Trisha (cont): physical scientific evidence may actually not ever be orgasmic, is incredibly harmful and damages so many aspects of our sexual culture, sex acts, sex research, and sex education. Trisha (cont): I don’t focus too much on which erotic turnons cause arousal. What I do say is that physical arousal is necessarily a precursor for orgasm. What I don’t get into much is what exactly might physically arouse someone, because although I think that is important information, it is outside my scope, and I think it muddies my point. Trisha (cont): Another thing I do say is that orgasm is a specific physical phenomenon. It is not just anything that feels good and the difference is important. Orgasm and pleasure are two different things. Trisha (cont): As for the stimulation technique that causes orgasm my stance is that a HUGE variety of mental and physical things can cause pleasure and physical arousal, and that there must be physical arousal present for an orgasm. Trisha (cont) Because an orgasm is the release of that physical arousal. However, to have the orgasm, there must be some sort of stimulation of the outer clitoral structure which could happen from a lot of different types of touch around the vulva. Trisha (cont): I know that is very broad but that is all I want to get across. Once people know that, they can figure the rest out in a personalized way. My point is so basic it seems it shouldn’t need saying. Yet I find it continues to be undervalued in significant ways. Trisha (cont): The idea that stimulation of the clitoral glans & vulva area is as important to orgasm as stimulation of the penis. When it comes down to it, there’s still so much focus on penetration as the equal or often times ultimate way of attaining female pleasure. Trisha (cont): My activist role is to create a database of scientific and cultural evidence to back up the claim that women need clitoral glans/vulva area stimulation to orgasm. So that people working on related topics (like personal approaches to desire, pleasure & orgasm) can articulate the difference between orgasm and other pleasure. JANE: A mans erection is due to his mental arousal. The male brain responds to a huge variety of turnons. But no one can name any female turnons. It is a mistake to think that promoting the clitoris will help women discover orgasm. Without mental arousal, physical stimulation is useless. An interesting & fun way to learn about sexuality for all
