JANE: Religion involves following guidelines set down by ancient peoples who lacked a scientific understanding of the world. People followed unquestioningly the wisdom laid down in laws made by men in line with male interests. JANE (cont): Women have never been permitted to lead any religion. They have been expected to obey men’s supposed greater knowledge of the world. Science is the opposite of religion in that it involves challenging ageold beliefs. JANE (cont): Female sexuality is the domain of women and men should have little say in defining it. Men’s role is to listen to what women say and respond to women’s need for respect, affection and caring behaviours. If men did that, they might get the sex they want. JANE: Sex education should explain how we enjoy sexual pleasure. Men enjoy sex fairly automatically. Women need information to understand their sexual and emotional responses. JANE (cont): Pornography is highly misleading in this respect because it portrays women responding to the stimulation that men provide in line with male fantasies. Women need to understand that sexual responsiveness is a characteristic of male reproductive function. JANE (cont): Men have a sex drive; women do not. Women are not equipped to respond instinctively with a lover so they must employ conscious behaviours if they want to please a man. Research indicates that women orgasm JANE (cont): by masturbating alone when they respond to erotic fantasies. But this capability is extremely rare.
